How to Achieve Goals at Any Stage

“Where do you see yourself in five years?” If you answered that five years ago, would your life reflect that today? At any stage in your life and career, you can and should set benchmarks that will take you to the next level. Ready, set, goal!

  1. Think of the big picture. The only true motivation is internal, so you’ll want to jump start your goals by getting your determination in full swing. Why are you looking to achieve this? How does it relate to your purpose and happiness? How does it relate to those you love? What does it mean for your future? Answers to these questions are difficult and do not have to come right away, but can instead be a part of the journey.

  2. Be specific. We like the S.M.A.R.T. Goals method, in which the goals set are specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time-bound. Everyone has dreams, but few create the goals that are the stepping stones to make them come true. We are big believers in the power of the daily habit, and thus recommend that you break up your goals into steps that you can take everyday.

  3. Educate yourself. The most effective goal-setters are always taking in information, whether that be through reading, watching the news or documentaries, or going to conferences. Look for inspiration everywhere, not just in your industry or the area you’d like to improve.

  4. Find support. There is a reason why so many gym-goers team up with workout buddies, or why local moms meet and create vision boards together. When you work together with friends or peers also looking to accomplish more in life, you can hold each other accountable to put your best effort forward.

  5. Start now. The most important step to achieving any goal? In the words of Nike, “just do it.” Do not let fear hold you back, and remember that the first step is always the hardest. With a solid action plan, education, and support, you can accomplish any goal you put your mind to.
